Traditionally,I do not have Rank, being that I have been appointed as Youshiki Shodai Soke', meaning that I am first Generation founder and may appoint or grade below me anyone to any rank up to 10th Dan if I so please.

Membership into Tanaka has opened-up for the first time in years since its beginning We hope that everyone takes advantage of membership and submits their application packets to honbu. This will help us in also appointing those wishing to become Representatives in the Various states and in various countries in different parts of the Globe should apply and make your intentions clear to our staff. I hope that those in the traditional arts take advan-tage and apply for the best in teachings and in lineage alongside the very best in Karate ka, Aikidoka, Jujutsuan.

A reminder that all of our ranking is done before our High Dan Board and should be app- lied for within time allowed; We promote once per year, normally this is for Senior or Master Level Ranking but we do make exceptions. Please look at "FEES" page for guidance on ranking and those wishing to apply for Title within Tanaka's guidelines which are strictly followed as is in Japan.

PROMOTION 

Sometimes goes to the right person, that is due and has earned his knocks and know-ledge, but there are those who have bought their way into rank-ing.. it is all about making money or attracting students.

I never did care about rank back in the 60s or 70s, to me its fine if you call me Mr Cantu or sir. You see, I wasnt born a black belt or martial artist., I was born a man who earned his even wh en a young man, some brag about vietnam when in fact they never set foot on the soil itself I can tell you from fact that it wasnt easy counting on tomorrow to get here? it was scarry to even sleep at nights for fear that no sooner you sleep and incoming would start all over again.

Yea, and I also remember the hot days out there in the fields when a kid, cause all my frien ds had to go out there and help their families... I was lucky I  didnt but I went to be  with my friend now those people are acquaint-ences thats all.. times change even people change.

I earned mine, and that I can always say, no one gave me a thing, if its free without sweat or the knocks that come with it, how will you know what it will be like in the real fight? I have had a few in L.A., Houston, RGV due to being a bounc as some call it, some call it security, but in real ity you just throw people around, even better if the are drunk., makes the job easier.

Yes I do know what works and what does not...do you? if you dont, then maybe you have or had the wrong choice in teachers, a real one would let you take the beating and shed a little blood in the Dojo, so that you dont loose all of it in the streets, and maybe become a fatality..

There are only (4) four Black Belt rank ings in the OLD system of Nihon... A Scroll is normally issued with this rank.

OLD SCHOOL RANKING, or as we say Traditional, not Gendai. Traditional is sometimes referred to as "Nihon" which is taken of techniques taken frm many "Old School" and making the Nihon or Traditional system of today.

Jujutsu is considered the "Mother" of all Japanese Arts, and should be instruct-ed or taught as a Science and an Art., being the correct method.

Dai Nippon Butoku kai Kyoto Japan

My friend and colleague Allan Tattersall Hanshi/Kancho of the Jujutsu has just re covered from medical problems which we both have gone through., After his > visits and teachings to schools in Malta, Pakistan, Russia, Germany and several other schools he found time (3.7hrs) to discuss our future in the areas of Iaido, and Jujutsu.

Kancho has worn out his "Uke's" in his many trips and now is using those that are being used at schools he is scheduled to teach. Allan and I spend the better time on the phone laughing and just plain karate talk something we both have done since the early years...  

I can think of noone better than Allan in regards to head of teachings in the area of Iaido, and Jujutsu when it comes to our teachings here at Tanaka which is .. directly sponsored or regulated by DNBK.

Certifications, Credentials ... there are no other better  and accepted world wide as  they are by DNBK, some may be prefessed by (cons, or sales persons) and youngsters who have had a few lessons in judo or in some form of mart ial arts, but when it comes down to it.. whether it is a science, or "complete tea chings" in the Art of JUJUTSU or other japanese arts, very few can actually compare or come close to the real thing.  
  

  Lets hope that our location and dojo Honbu Dojo is "decided on" quickly so that the True Art of Japans mother of Arts can be taught in the Austin Centroplex.  

I plan on being in Austin in the very near future so that I can view several buildings with hopes that we can begin with our true teachings in the areas of Austin, years past I taught for the AISD in several schools & Rec Centers and this year or coming year my plans will be the same and MORE !! with several or various of my students who bring with them over or the minimus of twenty or so years teaching in the arts.

Professor Lelands' Okinawon-Japanese Ma rtial arts is directly under Mr Lelands direct ion and all arts are taught by him.

Wadaryu, Gojuryu, Judo, Jujutsu are all part of his curriculum and has membership from Law Enforcement, FBI, to the General Public !

If in the area of Theodore, Al.. you may want to call and drop-in for a work out and be ready for a hard workout on the MAT all are expected to partici pate.

Mr Leland has been with me since his Brown Belt to now, Menkyo Kaiden and will be receiving his 10th Dan on 5 Aug all are invited to come by and watch demos which will be put on by all Senior Master Instructors who will ALL be getting on the MAT for a good time.

The Workout is not over until there's blood on the MAT, and this will be no exception. In the Old days we were labeled as Head Hunters and dont know why, but those who participate will also see how we have our workouts and fun.
